Our involvement

Last week, the heidi team proudly attended our first Hessenmetall event, “Innovative ways to secure skilled workers - between new work, people management and AI” alongside 75 HR professionals. This event brought together industry leaders to discuss how companies in Hessen are tackling the skilled labor shortage through innovative solutions like AI and advanced HR technologies.

Highlights of the event included practical workshops exploring AI-driven talent acquisition strategies, case studies showcasing how technology and new work approaches are transforming workforce planning, and networking opportunities with HR professionals to gain insights into emerging trends and collaborative strategies.

For heidi, this event was an invaluable opportunity to engage with like-minded organizations and showcase our commitment to solving the skilled labor crisis.

Our contribution

As part of the event, we had the privilege of presenting our innovative solution to address Germany’s skilled labor challenges. Our service connects German companies with highly skilled international talent, utilizing technology to streamline the recruitment process.

The Western Balkans regulation allows workers from Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo, North Macedonia, Montenegro and Serbia simplified access to the German labour market. It applies to almost all non-regulated occupations and without the need for recognition of professional qualifications.

What requirements must employees from the Western Balkan states fulfil?

Employees must be nationals of one of the six Western Balkan states, have not received any asylum seeker benefits in Germany in the last 24 months and, if over 45 years of age, must provide proof of a certain minimum salary or adequate pension provision.

How does the pre-consent procedure work and what advantages does it offer?

Pre-consent allows employers to obtain approval from the Federal Employment Agency before applying for a visa. Pre-consent is required for the use of the Western Balkans regulation and speeds up the subsequent visa procedure.

Is there a limit on the number of labourers via the Western Balkans regulation?

Yes, there is an annual quota of 50,000 approvals by the Federal Employment Agency. This requires early planning on the part of employers.
